YAY Life!!!
Hey lovely people!
So it’s been a while since I posted anything. I got caught up in life. Hence the title- YAY Life!!!
What’s been going on? I found a new passion- Muay Thai (or Thai Kickboxing). It has quickly become my favorite activity (that I’m willing to publicly blog about *wink*).
It all started in March. I was watching the TV show The Biggest Loser. They had this montage of one of the contestants that got sent home, and she was continuing her fitness by boxing. BOXING!? Huh. I’d never even considered boxing as a form of exercise, and I’d never done any martial arts. But right then, something about hitting those pads looked appealing.
I immediately did a Yelp search for local boxing gyms, and found a place that offered a $10 introductory class. At this point I would normally research something to death until I lost all interest. But this time was different. I said to myself, “Just call and see what they say.” I did, and set up an appointment for the next week. And I’ve been learning Muay Thai five days a week since then.
I’m obsessed with it. I’m honestly not a violent person, but there is something so incredibly satisfying about the *thwack* of a glove connecting with a pad. It’s an awesome way to relieve stress. I often ask myself what I was doing with my stress before? Mostly I was eating it. Shoving that stress back in my body, and packing it in with food. Now I just save my stress for 5:30 pm, and spend it all at the gym.
I feel happier than I’ve ever felt in my entire life. I am the most fit I’ve been since college. And, babe, I look hot.
Oh, I forgot to tell you about the community! The people at the gym are so nice. You’d think with all these tough guys they might be unfriendly, but really they are super sweet. When they yell at you to “Punch harder!” it’s because they love you. I promise.
That’s what I’ve been up to lately. It’s fabulous. I’ve even started dreaming (while I’m sleeping) about ways to improve my kicks. Plus, I recently won a raffle – a week at my gym’s facility in Thailand! Woot Woot!
There’s a lesson in all this. Follow your inspiration. Don’t let old habits keep you from finding new things to love. I’m going to keep that in mind with this blog, and I’ll be back here posting on a more regular basis.
Hugs,
Erin
